Street Food of the Gods
Using a researched food shed, we speculate on what foods would have been available at Hedeby in the Viking Ages!
There’s not much material evidence for street food and not a lot of written evidence exists, but market towns had to be able to feed folks visiting for business and pleasure.
Taste the flavours of Iron Age Denmark in your own kitchen!

WHAT’S COOKIN’?
Easy to follow recipes, flavor combinations, and fresh ideas for your daily menu!
Renee and Chris are a married couple living in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota. We’re close to St. Paul.
We have started digging into our own cultural roots in Denmark and Finland and chosen the late Iron Age-early Medieval time period. Renee does the food things, Chris does Webmaster and Videographer as well as kitchen help and his own wood turned bowls and cups.
We believe everyone's food culture should be easily accessible. We believe EVERYBODY has a place at the table. We also believe a feast is more than what you put on your plate: it's who you include in the making and serving. To that end, we have designed our recipes using a researched Iron Age Scandinavian food shed and found what can be had at groceries in an urban setting. All of the ingredients used in our recipes are part of that traditional food shed.
We have taken those ancient foods and combined them using modern techniques. There is no cinnamon, no olive oil, no pepper here. We are low sodium as salt is hard to come by in this food shed at this time.
Renee is a licensed Reading Teacher in St. Paul and Chris is an assistant store manager at a woodworking store in Bloomington. Our beloved Lab, Maximillian Foggybottom aspires to be our sous chef.
